Few people know who Charles Hull is! In 1983, Chuck invented the first 3D printing machine. It's only been in the last decade that this technology has gained momentum and now may form part of the creative curriculum for students in schools today. This term, members of the T3A [Technology for the Third Age] group have been given the opportunity to experience 3D printing.


We have created some original designs using Tinkercad and we have produced our own special keyring using the Makerbot printing machines in the Centre for Innovation. The computer aid design software [CAD] of Tinkercad is available free online and can be used on computers and iPads.




The creation of custom designs is now available to many people.

This technology continues to develop and already there is the capacity to 3D print

  • houses

  • bridges

  • musical instruments

  • food

  • prosthetics

  • clothing

  • and so much more.
