Engineers are problem solvers. We want SMC girls to be problem solvers who use technology for a purpose. The girls used a methodology called the engineering design cycle to invent, design, and create a solution to a problem. This was true for our Problem Based Learning classes where their goal was to invent a new board game to solve the problem of boredom during wet lunchtimes.
The design cycle follows this sequence of steps
The girls created many fantastic games, each showing their own original touches. The games were then tested to provide stakeholder feedback before final improvements were made.
Unicorns V Dragons was a bit hit with a great maths twist incorporated.
Jungle Journey was fun and very popular.
