Cartia, Eva, Georgia and Elise together make up the Y7 SMC Minions, one of SMC’s seven EPro8 teams this year.
They first competed in an internal school challenge against Y5 & Y6 teams as a practice run. It was a real shock to the girls, to actually come face-to-face with other school teams for their first ever EPro8 competition. This round was held at Hillmorton High School, where the girls competed against 11 other schools in a 3 hour intense competition. They were dismayed at the noise, buzzers and leaderboard distractions.
The girls took a while to get their bearings and sat last on the leaderboard for a bit. Watching this team was very stressful as the clock ticked down and the points were mounting for other teams. Finally they got their first points! They even climbed the leaderboard to 8th equal.
This is a huge achievement for these EPro8 first-timers, and we are super proud of them.
The EPro8 competition is based on engineering concepts, where they build structures using gears, pulleys, levers and axles.
Let’s give a big shout out to the Y7 engineers for giving it a go. Now let’s wish the next generation of engineers all the best in their upcoming competitions
